How the dashboard treats different source files
Raw XLSX, XLS, and CSV exports are translated into a common reporting structure. The importer can automatically locate legacy header rows anywhere in the used worksheet, including files with processing notes or blank spacer rows above the table, and can use recognized legacy filenames to recover dates and source classifications. A field that a source does not collect is treated as not available, not as zero. For example, Great Getaways records are excluded from map-request denominators because that export has no map-selection fields.
- Exact and overlapping records are screened with a hidden row fingerprint; identity fields used during import are not stored.
- Legacy formats supported include Experience Mississippi exports, Daily Download files, Great Getaways respondent lists, Southern Living respondent lists, and current Tour Guide exports. Southern Living and Great Getaways filename dates are normalized for calendar-year and fiscal-year reporting. Legacy material codes BLUE, GOLF, CWMM, and FTM are translated to Blues Trail Map, Golf Guide, Civil War Historical Sites Map, and Freedom Trail Map.
- Geography is validated by country: U.S. inquiries use the 50 two-letter USPS state codes and Canadian inquiries use the 13 official province/territory abbreviations. Unrecognized values are categorized as Unknown.
- Dashboard data is stored in the Visit MS Inquiry Dashboard SharePoint site and is the same for everyone with access. SharePoint version history keeps prior copies of the dataset. Fiscal years follow Mississippi state fiscal years (July 1–June 30).
